- Billanook College was founded 25 years ago - in February, 1980, by a group of committed local parents who wanted to establish a co-educational primary and secondary school in the emerging outer east of Melbourne
- The school began with 10 teachers, two administration staff and 150 students in the Parish Hall of St Andrew’s Uniting Church, Lilydale
- The founding families mortgaged their homes to purchase the land on which Billanook College is now situated. The College was then incorporated as a company limited by guarantee and recognised as a School of the Uniting Church
- Embracing the natural environment, Billanook College is situated on both
sides of Brushy Creek in Mooroolbark. There are 870 students enrolled at the
school, known for its excellent facilities, academic and co-curricular activities
- Billanook College is a member of The Round Square, an international organization of schools, which share a commitment beyond academic excellence, to personal development and responsibility through service, challenge, adventure and international understanding.

- Round Square schools have as their fundamental objective the full
and individual development of every pupil into a whole person, that is
the simultaneous realisation of the aspirations – academic, physical,
cultural and spiritual – of every member of the community. This
objective will be reflected in the curriculum of each school which, through
its comprehensive nature, will enable and ensure that such development
takes place
- There are nine Round Square schools in Australia, including Billanook
College, Ballarat Grammar School and Ivanhoe Grammar School
- Billanook College’s Mission Statement is: to develop a dynamic,
caring learning community which fosters the growth of the whole being
of each girl and boy - in body, mind and spirit
- Billanook College’s Vision Statement is: to be acknowledged
as the leading co-educational School in the outer east of Melbourne
providing a range of pathways to lifelong learning
- The College’s core values include: Equity, Inclusiveness and
Social Justice; Acceptance, Tolerance, Love, Integrity and Compassion;
Effort and Commitment; Accepting Responsibility; Active Participation
- Billanook College acknowledges its students come from diverse background
and have differing interests and abilities. The school aims to p rovide
dynamic, relevant programs that cater for these individual differences,
challenge students to strive for excellence and acquire leadership
skills

- We aim to foster a student’s love of learning, self-discipline, self-confidence and character in a friendly and supportive environment in which technology is used as a powerful tool
- The school encourages an appreciation of the natural environment and students, staff and parents are committed to preserving the beauty and tranquility of our school grounds. Billanook College also encourages students to become active in improving the physical world around them
- Billanook College emphasises a broad, balanced program of pastoral care for the individual and an ethos built on social justice, equity and inclusiveness underpinned by the foundations of the Uniting Church. It is proud of the excellent academic results and pathways it has established with TAFE and with work placement to assist all students
- BIllanook was the name the local Wurundjeri people called the site and the School’s motto Growing and Caring was chosen to reflect the values and attitudes of the founding families and the local community
