Canberra Girls' Grammar School, the oldest private day and boarding school in Canberra, opened with 9 students in 1926 and is celebrating 80 years of education in 2006.

Since our foundation Canberra Girls' Grammar School has paralleled and reflected the growth of Canberra, but its heritage stems from nineteenth century England where Sister Emily founded an Anglican religious order called the Community of the Sisters of the Church. Sister Emily's practical approach to serving the community and her attention to issues of social justice provide a foundation for our students to serve their own communities.

From the time that a student enters the Early Learning Centre and throughout their years at the Junior and Senior Schools, we give attention to developing a love of learning and a sense of belonging to a community. We encourage our students to value the opportunities that are made available to them in pursuing not only their academic studies but their interests in a range of co-curricular activities.

In 2005, our Dux of the School achieved a Universities Admission Index (UAI) of 99.95. Of our graduating students of 2005, 41.43% achieved a UAI of 90% or more, with eleven students achieving a UAI greater than 99. These results are a great credit to our students and reflect the dedication of the teaching staff and the School's commitment to its continuing pursuit of excellence.

Developing Life Skills The pastoral support received by all students within the School reflects our view that we play an important role in the development of life skills such as self-confidence and a sense of belonging to a community.
