History

Perth College is the oldest Independent Girls' School in Western Australia. It was founded by the Anglican Sisters of the Church in 1902 and in 1915 moved to its current Mt Lawley Campus where the Sisters amalgamated their five schools. The Sisters' vision of the potential of women challenged the stereotypes of the time and Perth College students were among the very first graduates of the University of Western Australia. Perth College 'old girls' have pioneered new roles for women and have made significant contributions to the community through the generations. The Sisters and past students have handed on "a heritage to hold with care" and these deep roots in the past sustain a modern school prepared for the challenges of the future.

Statement of Purpose

The School aims to provide a continuously improving standard of education for girls within a dynamic and caring community.
It achieves this by establishing a positive learning community in which each girl can realize her academic potential and develop her spiritual awareness, creative skills and physical well-being.
Within this community girls will have the opportunity to:

• develop a sense of social justice and compassion
• celebrate diversity
• develop maturity in interpersonal relationships
• develop acceptance of self and manage both success and failure
• become independent learners
• enjoy their education.

Location

Perth College is situated in the leafy inner suburb of Mount Lawley, close to the CBD as well as within easy reach of the outer metropolitan, hills, river and Swan Valley suburbs.  Its placement near arterial roads and excellent links to public transport, as well as its own school bus system, make the School easy to get to. The ambience, profile and excitement of being part of the Mount Lawley “café strip” adds a unique buzz to the School environment and places it squarely within the cultural heart of the city.
