Who are the main employers?


In days gone by, some of the top advertising executives got their start in the advertising department of stores like David Jones and Grace Bros (now Myer). While retail outlets still employ some people, numbers have been drastically reduced with the vast majority of advertising jobs now found in-house with an agency.

The exception is Harvey Norman, with Gerry Harvey famously saying he doesn’t need to outsource what he can do so well in-house, and hiring his own team for his retail-type advertising and catalogues.
