More than 500,000 Australians work in the not-for-profit sector and competition for the support of donors, volunteers, corporate sponsors and charitable trusts is intense.
However, most not-for-profit (NFP) accounts go to direct marketing agencies, focusing on below the line, as these organisations seek to raise funds. That said, many large agencies do work for NFPs on a pro bono basis.
Those interested in working for not-for-profits should research which of the big agencies are working for these organisations and try to get jobs with those agencies. That way, you could end up working in the kind of campaign that interests you.
Alternatively, marketing and communications jobs within the larger NFPs, such as World Vision, Red Cross, The Salvation Army and The Royal Blind Society, offer scope for people with interests in advertising.
