The TAFE system offers a range of relevant courses with a focus on practical skills. Some have been developed in consultation with the industry body to address shortfalls in the skills base of their recruits.
For example, the MFA developed a course for students interested in working in the media side of advertising. As with the university courses, it is worthwhile taking the time to check the websites of the various industry bodies to see which courses they endorse.
TAFE courses are generally shorter than university courses and may be more easily combined with on-the-job experience. Course structures are usually flexible, and duration ranges from 18 weeks full time for Certificate I courses, to two years full time for Diploma courses.
