Because most roles in advertising don't have strict entry criteria when it comes to tertiary qualifications, the type of course you chose will depend on what part of the agency you would like to work in.
At bachelor degree level many universities offer advertising-related degrees through the business/commerce faculty and the humanities/arts faculty. If you are interested in account service, then opt for a business or marketing degree. For art directors, try a course that will teach you craft skills such as graphic design or fine arts, while copywriters might try for an English literature major.
Some institutions, such as the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, offer advertising as a specialisation or major within a communications degree.
