Don't underestimate the power of networking. Every person you meet, every industry contact you make, every job you have, can lead you to other work, other jobs, or that dream job you are looking for.
A great number of jobs are found through the ‘hidden job market’ – through colleagues, friends, co-workers, people you have worked with before, and so on. It is not uncommon for an employer to ‘ask around’ before they start formal recruitment. If you’re in the right place at the right time, you could get a foot in the door.
Stay in touch with friends you meet at TAFE, university or via casual jobs. As your career develops, your networks of opportunity and influence will increase.
