The building and construction industry has long been perceived as a man’s domain. However, times are slowly changing.
Professions like concreting, plant operation and bricklaying remain bastions of masculinity, however, other areas like carpentry, glazing, engineering and surveying are attracting women.
A number of programs encouraging women to enter the building and construction industry are raising awareness. For example, the National Association of Women in Construction offers a number of scholarships for women in the industry.
