Corporate IT is recovering from the downturn the dotcom sector took between 2001 and 2003, and this is expected to continue. Recruitment company Hays says the modest recovery will put upward pressure on salaries. Hays notes strong demand for system architects, network engineers and project managers with a solid understanding of J2EE and .NET.
The corporate sector demands fairly high-level qualifications among IT applicants. Almost all advertisements for senior positions such as IT architects, data-modellers and network engineers require applicants to have tertiary qualifications, although some will consider ‘equivalent experience’.
In addition to the J2EE and .NET skills mentioned above, there is solid demand in corporate IT for Cisco-certified network engineers; Oracle/Peoplesoft/SAP consultants and database analysts (DBAs); UNIX, Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) skills.
