Tertiary education

Universities are very diverse technological environments with a wide range of systems, often connected by way of very high-speed network connections.

Every Australian university has a considerable investment in IT infrastructure – from the large-scale systems used for administration and enrolments, to the computers used by students and staff. Many academic disciplines also require ultra-specialised applications.

Universities employ a range of programmers, analysts, database managers, network engineers and IT managers (CSOs or computer systems officers).

Although the rates of pay can amount to somewhat less than those offered by the financial services or corporate sectors, the tertiary sector provides staff with excellent employment conditions and a diverse range of professional specialisations.
