An ever-increasing majority of IT jobs are advertised and recruited online. Sites like Seek have considerable resources on their websites including resume tips, recruiter profiles, job application tracking, keyword searching and more.
Whether you are applying for a position online or responding to a traditional newspaper advertisement, the same rules apply. It is a numbers game – it might take a lot of applications to start getting calls back – but it is important not to indiscriminately fire off applications for every conceivable vacancy. You want to get noticed, but not as a nuisance.
Instead, apply for the jobs you genuinely believe you could get. Spend a few minutes tailoring your resume to suit the position and, where applicable, keep track of your progress online.
